Over the holidays, I’ll be taking “quality” time off.
What do I mean by quality?
I mean that I will be using my vacation time to rejuvenate with intention.
In the past, I bought into the notion that time off meant tossing out the to-do lists and schedules.
So, for years, that’s what I did.
But feelings of boredom often crept in quickly.
I ended spending too much time binge-watching Netflix.
Overindulging in food and drinks.
And wasting time scrolling on social media.
When it was time to return to work, I felt slothful and guilty.
Was this rejuvenating?
A few years ago, I began taking a different approach.
I made a to-do list.
Not with work projects.
But with positive self-care activities.
Every day I made a schedule.
Not for business meetings.
But to plan when I was to exercise, meditate, and read.
It worked.
Now, when I return, I feel productive and satisfied.
Vacation time off, I learned, isn’t about tossing out to-do lists and calendars.
It’s about being intentional about what you put on it.
During my quality time off over the holidays, I’ll be rejuvenating.
I hope you are too.
Happy holidays.
See you in 2021!
