Someone recently asked me, “What was the biggest moment that impacted your life?”

Someone recently asked me, “What was the biggest moment that impacted your life?”
It’s a simple question, but I found it hard to answer.
The truth is, it wasn’t just one moment. A collection of experiences, challenges, and decisions brought me to where I am today.
From starting my first business to becoming a dad to taking bold risks when life threw me curveballs, each moment has taught me something valuable.
Reflecting on these experiences, I’ve noticed 3 themes that have been present throughout my journey.
Resilience through reinvention
Life doesn’t always go as planned, but I’ve learned that tough times often create opportunities. When my first business collapsed during the Great Recession, I didn’t know what would come next.
It pushed me to discover personal development, which changed my outlook and gave me the strength to rebuild. Similarly, I was interviewing for my dream job when the pandemic hit, causing a hiring freeze. I got creative and used that setback to start this business.
Reinvention isn’t easy, but it’s always been worth it.
Courage to step into discomfort
Public speaking used to terrify me, but joining Toastmasters changed everything. It gave me the confidence to not only speak but also to embark on a journey of writing and leadership in ways I never thought possible.
Whether getting involved in the meditation community, seeing a therapist, or changing my business strategy, stepping into the unknown has always led to personal growth.
Commitment to lifelong growth
Every experience has taught me something, whether a win or a loss. Growth isn’t about perfection; it’s about staying curious and learning every day.
Lessons come from books, mentors, podcasts, or even quiet reflection. By embracing growth, I’ve adapted to change, taken on challenges, and become a better leader, parent, and person.
Growth isn’t about getting it perfect; it’s about being open to learning every day.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this:
We are not defined by what happens to us, but by how we choose to respond.
