“Bianca’s reading fluency is behind,” my daughter’s teacher said.

It was the beginning of the pandemic.

We were concerned the gap would widen.

We enrolled Bianca in tutoring.

She was working hard and improving.

At the end of summer, Bianca retested.

Not only did she close the gap, but she was reading above level.

A few weeks ago, she came home with her report card.

Straight A’s!

The school year is ending soon.

We’re exploring summer activities.

I suggested tutoring.

Bianca questioned, “why do I need a tutor when I’m getting straight A’s?”

I told her she’s doing fantastic—that she should be proud.

I explained that tutors aren’t just to help if you’re struggling but can accelerate learning.

Then I asked,

Would you be against getting placed in the higher-level math class next year or reducing the time it takes to complete homework?

She answered, “no.”

Then let’s take advantage of this opportunity, I said.

The next day I was on a call with an agency.

They questioned, “why do we need new business services when we’re doing well?”

I told them that’s fantastic—they should be proud.

Then I asked,

Would you be against improving your new business win rate or increasing your deal size?

They answered, “no.”
