Monday Motivation

Ever go for a run when the wind’s at your back?

Ever go for a run when the wind’s at your back?

On a recent run on a brisk fall morning, I had such an experience.

It felt amazing.

Every step I took was like I was flying.

Each tune streaming through my AirPods was a banger.

I felt invincible.

That’s how business felt for many of us a few years ago.

The economy was strong, clients were knocking on our doors, and deals were closing fast.

It felt easy.

We were running with the wind.

But then, that fall morning, it was time to turn around on the trail to come home.

This time, I had to run against the wind.

Every step became a battle.

My pace slowed.

I started questioning my fitness.

Even the tempo of music streaming slowed.

I wondered, “Will I make it?”

But I kept pushing, focusing on my training and form.

Eventually, I persevered and made it home.

That’s how this year has been for many businesses.

The economy is shaky, budgets are tight, and deals are stalling.

We’re running against a strong wind.

In running, life, or business, you’ve got to keep pushing.

In good times?

It’s easy to forget that we’re not as great as we think.

We ignore the fundamentals, the basic steps that got us here.

But when the wind changes, those basics are our lifeline.

In tough times?

Know that you’re not as ‘out of shape’ as it feels.

Dig deep, push harder, and don’t stop.

Stick to the fundamentals.

The weather will change.

And when it does, if you keep running, you’ll find the wind at your back again.

You’ll be set to pass everyone who slowed or stopped.

Your struggle against the wind today prepares you to breeze through the challenges of tomorrow.
