My life changed one fateful day on the softball field.
Playing right field, a high-fly ball came my way.
With a determined glint in my eye, I sprinted toward the ball.
But little did I know.
A storm sewer lay hidden in my path, waiting to change my life.
In an instant, I was tumbling to the ground.
My cleats caught in the sewer’s grate.
The pain shot through my body like a lightning bolt.
Never had I felt such agony.
My right ankle and leg were shattered.
I cried out.
It wasn’t just pain but fear of what lay ahead.
Days later, surgery.
Crutches became my new reality.
Gone was my independence.
Gone was the life I’d taken for granted.
Now, the simplest tasks were a monumental challenge.
Cooking, cleaning, even going to the restroom became productions.
To make matters worse, my daughter was born 2 weeks after the injury.
I couldn’t walk and carry her.
I couldn’t stand up and change her diapers on the table.
I couldn’t take her out in the stroller.
The longing to do everyday things was overwhelming.
But with that longing came a determination.
Through hard work and physical therapy, I clawed back.
It was a slow and grueling journey.
But I managed to rebuild strength.
I regained the normalcy I’d lost.
As I returned to daily activities, the experience left a mark.
I learned to appreciate the little things, those mundane tasks I used to complain about.
The lesson was clear: never take what you have for granted.
Life can change instantly, leaving you longing for the things you once loathed.
Stuck in traffic?
At least I have a car and the ability to drive it.
Client stressing me out?
At least I have clients to service and the capability to assist them.
Don’t feel like working out?
At least I have health and the opportunity to exercise when I choose to.
I strive to be aware of the blessings in my life.
In business and life, appreciate your opportunities and abilities.
Life is a series of a thousand tiny miracles.
Notice them.
