Our society faces an epidemic. We’re…
Overscheduled.
Overcommitted.
And overextended.
Our connectedness to our devices only exacerbates the problem.
Emails.
Notifications.
Messages.
All of this leaves us no time to think, stunting creativity and innovation.
We need alone time.
We need time to think.
My ex and I share custody of our daughter.
As part of our parenting agreement, my daughter is with her mom every other weekend.
Initially, I felt uneasy sharing this.
But I’ve found my most fruitful ideas came after weekends when I was alone.
During these weekends, I often…
Read books and watch documentaries.
Lounge poolside.
Go for walks in nature.
These weekends allow me to recharge and think.
They’re self-care.
As a result, I become more productive at work.
More importantly, more engaged with my daughter when I see her next.
I’ve experienced the benefits of alone time, so I’ve created other similar opportunities to think.
Waking up extra early.
The stillness of the morning and the sunrise inspires me.
Listening to music and podcasts during workouts.
The dopamine rush gets me into that same state of mind.
Recently, I even took a self-retreat to Florida to think.
Interestingly, the 3-hour drive from Miami to the Keys was the most creative period of the trip.
It’s easy to neglect alone time, but it’s crucial to our well-being.
Embracing alone time will unleash your creative potential.
You may feel guilty initially.
It doesn’t mean you don’t love your family or friends.
The feeling will dissipate as you see the positive effects transforming your life.
Alone time is when you distance yourself from the voices of the world so you can hear your own.
