A student said to his meditation teacher

By: Christian Banach

A student said to his meditation teacher,

“My meditation is terrible!

I get distracted, or my legs ache, or I fall asleep.

It’s terrible!”

“It will pass,” the teacher said matter-of-factly.

A week later, the student came back to his teacher and said,

“My meditation is amazing!

I feel so aware, so peaceful, so alive!

It’s just wonderful!”

“It will pass,” the teacher replied matter-of-factly.

Recent events remind me of the importance of this story.

Life is a series of moments.

Nothing is fixed.

Everything is temporary.

You will experience challenges.

You lose a client.

A key employee leaves

Don’t let it consume you.

“This too shall pass.”

You will experience good fortune.

You win a big client.

Get recognized for an award.

Don’t become overconfident and take things for granted.

“This too shall pass.”

Some of my biggest accomplishments came following my greatest setbacks.

Some of my biggest setbacks came following my greatest accomplishments.

Practicing this perspective helps me bring more peace to each moment, good and bad.

Stay positive. Be hopeful. Don’t stop.

“This too shall pass.”

This Too Shall Pass
