This time of year takes me back to one of my all-time favorite movies.

The Sandlot.

As baseball’s spring training gets underway, it’s an excuse for me to rewatch the movie.

The Sandlot is a coming-of-age story.

A group of young friends share a love for baseball during the summer of 1962.

The kids embark on adventures, facing mishaps like retrieving a baseball from a dog named “The Beast.”

They discover friendship, bravery, and the joy of childhood.

But as the summer ends, the friends drift apart.

Each character embarks on their path, illustrating the inevitable changes and growth that come with time.

This past weekend, my daughter Bianca played her last club volleyball game of the season.

A thought occurred to me.

She’s living her ‘Sandlot moment.’

At 12, surrounded by close friends, she’s at a pivotal point in life, much like the boys in the movie.

They had baseball; she has volleyball.

Soon, her friends will move on to different high schools and pursue new interests (like boys).

But the essence?

The same.

These are the days she’ll remember, the friendships that’ll shape her.

Mine did for me.

As I watched her play, I realized something profound.

We’re all living our ‘Sandlot moment’ at every stage of life.

For me, right now, it’s…

The precious time I spend with Bianca during her tween years.

The friends I’ve made playing pickleball and the thrill of competing.

The journey of growing my business with my current team, clients, and partners.

So here’s the lesson, both for our personal and professional lives:

Cherish today.

Embrace the now, for it’s fleeting.

Like the kids of The Sandlot, we’re in the midst of our unforgettable summer.

Before we know it, we’ll look back, yearning for these moments.

Life’s short.

Savor it, and remember, the magic isn’t just in being 12 or in 1962.

It’s in the here and now, always.

Tomorrow belongs to those who cherish today.
