Why is Halloween important for adults?

By: Christian Banach

Why is Halloween important for adults?

In my past life, I owned a concert promotions business.

My favorite event each year was our Haunted Hotel Ball.

Every year, we’d take over a hotel for Halloween.

We’d transform the hotel ballrooms into a fantasyland.

Decorations, costumed actors, interactive performers, and DJs.

But the real stars were the guests.

The creativity of their costumes amazed me.

Scary.

Erotic.

Funny.

Halloween offers us opportunities and reminders.

To stop taking ourselves so seriously.

To have fun.

Fun enhances life satisfaction, boosts creativity, and improves cognitive health.

Fun helps us cope with stress.

Fun facilitates learning, bonding, and communication.

As business leaders, we sometimes forget about fun.

New business pitches.

Status calls.

Bored meetings (whoops, board meetings).

But what’s all of this for if you don’t get to enjoy it?

We’ve got one life to live.

We get to choose how we live it.

If it’s not fun, you’re not doing it right.

Happy Halloween!
